    There are two forges in my parish. The smiths are Michael Fox and Michael Mallon. Them people have been smiths for many years. Foxes forge is situated along the Esker road, and Mallons forge is situated along the Soran road. The forge is thatched and has a [?] door. There are one fireplace within. There is a cemented floor in it. And shelves around the wall with a hundred kinds of tools. There is a bellows in the forge to blow the fire. The smith shoes horses, ponies, and asses, but he does not shoe cattle. The smith makes ploughs harrows and shoes wheels of carts. He repairs mowing machines. He repairs ploughs and mowing machines, and shoes wheels in the open air. Smiths were always looked upon as being very strong. Forges were nearly all built convenient to a stream. The smith also makes spades and shovels and slanes.
