- In my district, Cloninaha, Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary, formerly a straw-cross used to be made on Christmas Day and left until Palm Sunday beside the cream for it was said that you would never want for butter while that was there. The cross used to be made of wheaten-straw and was made by the oldest boy in each house.
"Branches and Herbs" Holly is still used in all the houses in this district. It is put up on Christmas Day and taken down after Little Christmas or Twelfth Day. It is generally put up over the pictures around the house. People always try to get berried holly which is often hard to be procured especially if the weather is cold.
Palm is hung up in the houses and also in the out-houses on Palm-Sunday, and left there till the following year. This is to remind us of our Lord's entry into Jerusalem(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
