- In every house in this district holly is used at Christmas for decorating the homes of the people. It is nearly always placed over pictures hanging on the walls, and the shop windows are also decorated with it. On Palm Sunday, blessed palm is worn by most of the people. The houses and out-houses are also decorated with it. Crosses are also made from the palm.
Out-houses such as cow-houses and stables are decorated with sprigs of the may bush on the 1st of May. Shamrock is worn by the people on St. Patrick's Day. St. Patrick's crosses and ribbons are also worn on that day. In former times the people made straw crosses at Christmas.
These were kept in the house and were said to bring luck.Maisie Murphy, Main St., Borrisokane. Co. Tipperary.- Bailitheoir
