  1. In my neighbouring townsland of Kyle Park, Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary, there lives an old woman by the name of Miss Kate Griffin, whose fame as a poetess is only known by the people of the district in which she lives. This old dame was born in the year 1853. She is the daughter of the late Mr. John Griffin, Cloninaha, Borrisokane, who earned his living by boot-making. She is the authoress of a great many poems on general topics, concerning local people, fatal accidents, and historical incidents, particularly those which happened since 1916. Although she has reached the age of 85 years she is hale and hearty and can still write poetry. She is a lady of wonderful intellect, and it is a pity she did'nt get a chance of developing her talent, as she would probably make a poetess of great renown.
The following two poems are specimens of her composition.
