  1. Gubbins was a tyrant living in Kilfrush long ago, On one occasion he called one of his workmen in a hurry and said "Take this down immediately to the governor of Limerick jail", handing him a sealed message. The poor man went off as quickly as possible and handed it to the governor. But what had Gubbins written in the letter only to kill the man who delivered it. The unfortunate man was caught and dragged in. Without the least bit of mercy or any crime to charge him with, the poor man was taken up to the scaffold and hanged like a dog.
