- The potato-crop is a very troublesome crop to grow. About the month of February the farmer starts preparing for it.
He uses a strong iron plough and a harrow in which to break all the big lumps of earth. When the ground is ready, it is made into drills: and then manure is put into them.
A day before the potatoes are set, they are cut into small pieces. They are set between the drills on top of the manure about a foot apart from each other.
When they are set, a man comes and puts artificial potato manure on them. The drills are closed by the plough and horses. They are now finished for the time being.
About three weeks after, you could see the small little stalks appearing along the .. of the drills. When they are getting big and strong, the farmer scuffles and earths them with the plough.
When they reach about a foot in height, they are then sprayed(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
