Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)any town where there is a fair green. When an animal is sold there is money given called luck with the beast. The larger the price the larger the luck. When bought the animals are sometimes marked with blue and red raddle. Others throw mud on them, and others cut their initials on the hair with a scissors. Some sellers finish the bargain by shaking hands, others by giving each others hand a slap, and others by spitting on the hands.
When a horse is sold the halter is given with the horse. The first of September is the best sheep fair of the year. Castlerea and Lanesboro and Athlone are the best horse fairs and farmers are always on the look-out of these fairs. When people sell their stock they give six pence each for lambs, one shilling for sheep and calves, and two shillings each for cows, and ten shillings for a horse as luck. When a man is tight he gives small luck.- Faisnéiseoir
