"The long meadow" is so called because it is very long. "The middle meadow" is so called because it is in the middle of the meadow. "The bog meadow" is so called because it is near the bog. "The hilly field" is so called because there are a number of fields in it. "The far meadow" is so called because it is a long distance from the dwelling house.
