  1. Marriages most frequently occur in Shrove-tide. There are certain months and days on which people should not get married such as the month of May, the 13th of any month and any Saturday which is said to be an unlucky day. The usual days are Mondays and Wednesdays.
    Before a couple get married it is usual for their parents to meet in a friends house or in the home of the bride. All arrangements are made concerning the marriage and if everything is satisfactorily arranged the bottle of whiskey is produced. About a hundred years ago marriages were held in houses and we are told that the majority of them took place in the priest's residence.
    The wedding-feast is held in the brides home and she has to bear the experience of the repast. Sometimes neighbouring boys visit the house. They are known as "strawboys" because they are disguised mainly by means of straw
