    A long time ago people were starving with hunger and many people were found dead along ditches and road sides.
    When they had no food to get they ate the barks of trees, and grass.
    They used to dig for the roots of the bachlóg and eat it.
    Some men had great courage and took the landlord's sheep and cattle to eat.
    In our village, Knockroe, a man was found dead with a five pound note in his pocket The people found out that he died of starvation. They did not know his name because his family died of starvation also.

  2. His father before him was a very good black-smith too. Some people say that a black-smith is very strong and if you got a blow of his fist you would thing of it for a long time.
