  1. When the famine came to Ireland in the year 1846 the people were very poor.
    On our farm there are the ruins of an old house where a man and his wife died with hunger.
    In our village there are the ruins of an old house where a family called Kellys died with fever. It is said that when their funerals were going away the people stood on the hills looking at them. They did not come near them because they were afraid that they would get the fever.
    The ridges can be yet seen where the potatoes, that were never dug failed.
