1. The People of the District (ar lean)

   They are so many of the same name in this district that some other name of the father or mother is added with the name to distinguish one from another such as - Thady Mick Boland, John Tom Dempsey, Martin C. Howley, and Martin of the Hill.
   Some years back there lived a man names Mickey Queenan, he was supposed to be very powerful. He used to throw weights over twenty feet.
   The people of this district are very thrifty, and industrious. Those that have small farms buy con-acre at very large sums of money. On this they grow potatoes, turnips, oats, wheat, and other crops. Now the most of them have adopted new methods of working such as: threshing-machine, potato-digger, mowing-machine, reaper, and binder, have taken the work of the flail, spade, scythe, and hook.
   The people of this district dress very neat and tidy. The dress is the dress common to all Ireland. Even the children going to school are all very neat and tidy.
