    In Dublin's town I was brought up,
    That city of great fame,
    My parents reared me tenderly
    As many did the same.
    I being a bold young fenian lad
    They sent me across the main,
    For seven long years to New South Wales,
    And wear a convict chain.

    I being no longer than six months
    In the Australian shore,
    When I turned out a highwayman
    As often did before,
    There was Mac Namara from young green woods,
    And Captain Mackey too,
    They were the bold associates of brave O'Donoghue
    III
    Now O'Donoghue was taken up for
    a notorious crime,
    His sentence was that he should be hanged,
    Upon the gallows high,
    But when they brought him to Sydney Jail,
    He left then in a stoo, (stew)
    And when they went to call the roll,
