  1. In olden times there were several factories throughout the country, but at the present day the factories are situated chiefly in cities and towns. Each factory manufactured different goods and materials. In olden times wool was manufactured into thread in the homes by means of a spinning wheel. There was a woolen factory in Coolmanna. The country folk brought wool to this factory, where it was carded or made into little rolls. It was then spun in the homes by spinning wheels. One of those wheels was kept in almost every house in the district. Some people sent the thread to factories to be woven into cloth or frieze. Basket making was carried on in some houses of the district also. The baskets consisted of thin sallies which were woven together. They were made in this manner. A thick stick was first procured for the top rim of the basket. The stick was put in hot water in order to bend it. Thinner sallies were then procured
