There are the ruins of four cabins in Cornaan. Part of the walls is all that remains. The floors of these cabins were made of hard clay. The people used turf and sticks for burning.

  2. There is the ruins of an old house in one of our fields. The name of the people who lived there was Shiels. This house had a thatched roof, and the floor was made of clay. There was no chimney on this house, but there was a hole in the roof which some of the smoke went out through. The fire was made of turf. The light was of rush candles. The rushes from which the candles were made, were cut when these rushes were still green. The rushes were peeled and left up to season. Then they were dipped in grease, and were left up to dry.
