There was a man named "Jimmy from Sonnagh", and he never wore boots, and there was an old saying that the one pair of laces done Jimmy for his life time.
Nearly all the children go barefooted in the summer but none go barefoot all the year round.
There were three families of shoemakers in this district in olden times, the Greys, The Connors, and James Kerrigan. The Connors and Kerrigan lived in the village of Rathowen The Greys lived in Corrydonlon. They used to make and repair boots.
There is no shoemaker in the district at present.
Clogs were always worn and were worn more in olden times than now.
There was a tan-yard in the locality. It was in Loughinstown. The pit where they used to steep the skins is still to be seen. The field is now owned by Mrs O'Keeffe.
