- There was once a great big giant living in the woods. Every one who came across him was sure to meet with death so they shunned him in fear. A little boy whose name was Jack was a very brave boy. He heard tell of the giant. One day he went to the giant to look for hire. When he met the giant he told him what he wanted.The giant at once gave him hire and told him that they would have to draw a lot of water next day and he could have the evening free. Next morning they went to draw the water and each brought two large pails. Jack was not able to carry the pails so he pulled then down the hill after him. The giant filled his pails and was starting off with them, when he saw that Jack was not coming on but going round and round the well. The giant questioned the boy and asked him why he was not coming. He told him that there was no use in bring home small quantities of water like that. "I will have(continues on next page)
