    to bring the whole well or none at all." said Jack. The giant told him to leave the well alone and not to bring any water. "If you bring the well it will go dry and then I will have no water" said the giant." He allowed him to go free. Next day they went to draw timber and the same thing happened. Jack was not able to do anything and that was the only way he had for getting out of the thing. The giant told Jack about a great feast of porridge they were to have. He told him if he was not able to eat a tub-ful of the porridge he would die. Jack was very sad and wondered what he should do. At last he thought of a plan. He went up to a sleeping room and got a sheep-skin and put it inside his clothes. Then he went down to eat the porridge. When he had all finished he stood up on the floor and told the giant that he could do more than him. He said he could let all the porridge he had eaten out on the floor. The giant at once got furious to hear that a little fellow should do better than himself. He at once drew a knife through his
