    It is said that if you are cleaning out a fire-place on a Monday morning you should not throw out the ashes until after twelve o'clock in the day. If you throw it out before twelve o'clock you will be thrown out your luck for the rest of the week.
    You would also have bad luck if you are throwing out water and you throw it straight out the door. You should always throw it to the side because the "Good People" (as they are called) are always outside the doors of houses and they would give you bad luck.
    The old people used always keep a cock on a roost over the front door of their houses. Because they say that any "evil spirits" that is going around can not pass the cock and so the can't go into the house. it is always said that when a cock crows in the night there is an "evil spirit" around the house and when it hears the cock crow it goes away immediately.
