The old people had a lot of customs...

The old people had alot of customs for instance they believed that it was god luck to meet a black cat. If you came across a horse-shoe and kissed it, then threw it over your shoulder it would bring you good luck. Or if you found a bit of coal and burned it in the first fire you met it would bring you good luck.
    One Magpie for sorrow
    Two for joy
    Three for a wedding
    Four for a pie
    Five for silver
    Six for gold
If a person hit you on the head with an elder stick he would never grow
An old saying: - a stitch in time saves nine.
