No wonder that they cry aloud:
    "Are better feelings dead?"
When cats + dogs have waiting maids
    While children cry for bread!
They preach as did Out Saviour preach
    The Sermon on the mount
His life, His love, His labours,
    They many times recount
    They quote from history's pages
    How the Lord's avenging hand
Has scourged with plague + pestilence
    The sinners of the land.
The word is heard, but heeded not:
    They go their giddy ways
    Of faddish self-indulgence in
    A maddening, whirling maze
