money is given when an animal is sold and it is called "Luck-penny" The Luck penny is always calculated in the bargain. When a bargain is made the parties connected strike hands as a sign of agreement. When animals are sold they are marked with mud on the flank while some are marked by clipping the hair and others are branded with raddle (a cattle-marker)
When an animal is sold its halter is not given away it is retained. The greatest fair of the year is the March fair. There is no special fair held for the sale of sheep or horses (horses are not sold at all in Borrisokane) while bonhams are sold at the local markets.
I, Peg Kennedy, Ballycasey, Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary heard this from Michael Kennedy, Ballycasey, Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary.
