  1. Long ago people made their own candles. They got the lard of a sheep and they melted it. They mixed it tallow which they got from cows. The they put it into a mould which was a narrow round-shaped tin. They left it there for a couple of days. Then it was fit for use. Baskets were made in this district. They were made of sallies and bamboos. Big baskets were used for washing potatoes. Small ones were made for young calves. Ploughs were made of timber before iron ploughs were invented.
