  1. The Leprechaun
    The Leprechaun is a favourite figure in Irish Mythology. He is depicted as a fairy shoe - maker, carrying a miniature hammer and last, and an old shoe, which is supposed to be always undergoing the process of being re-soled. Many tales have been told, of encounters with the Leprechaun, but nobody has ever succeeded in extracting the secret of the crock of gold.
    A man named Michael Barrett. Ballynattin, Ballynoe, Tallow, Co Waterford, informed me that a fairy rath, in the neighbourhood was frequented by a Leprechaun some fifty years ago and that the "tap, tap", of his hammer could be heard quite clearly. On one occasion as he returned from work late one moon - light night, he happened to glance at the fort, and to his amazement hew saw a tiny figure sitting under a how-thorn bush, which grew on the
