  1. Once upon a time there was a woman who had a daughter of her own & also a stepdaughter. To her own she was very generous & kind while to the other she staved her & left her around half naked. She also used to beat her & send her off without a bit to eat, into the wood to gather a bresna[?] of sticks even in the snow & harshness of winter.
    One day the stepmother was beating the child on the stairs with the poker when the woman saw a vision & heard a flutter. Then it changed into a woman & who was it only the
