When the farmer went home he told the story to his wife. At twelve o' clock he went to the fort again, but after a time his wife became impatient. She took a short cut across the fields and reached the tree just after her husband had left it. It being a dark night she could not see very well and she fell into the hole which her husband had made in his search for gold. Hearing the screams the neighbours gathered and rescued her but one of her legs were broken.
