  2. The poor Irish suffered very much in the penal times. The priests could not say Mass nor the teachers could not teach school. There were no colleges and the Irish boys and girls had to go away to other countries to be educated.
    A man named John King taught the children under a hedge in the penal times. Father Kelly who was a young priest was found saying Mass on a rock. He had two men watching for him, but to his disappointment
