  1. The Care of Farm Animals.
    The names of cows are Kerry, speckled, and polly or míulín. The house that the cows are in is called the byre. The cows are tied with chains to poles, sunk down in the ground called stakes.
    When a cow breaks into a neighbour's field it is called theevin. A flat board is tied to the cow's horns and oftentimes her leg is tied to her horns with a piece of a bag to prevent her from theevin. When a cow does not stand quietly to be milked the people say 'therach' When the cow is milked the sign of the cross is made on her with the froth of the milk and 'God bless you is said'.
    The house that the horse is in is called the stable When you want the horse to come to you, you say phthrough, phthrough, phthrough.
    When the hens are being called to their food they are called like this 'chuckey' 'chuckey' and when they
