It being on the twenty fourth of May
    The year ninety four
There was held a fair in Islands
Where it never was held before
    This fair was not plackcarded
Though it was rumoured up and down
And long before the business was held
    They came from Williamstown, Ballyhanuis
    Ballinlough and famous Castlerea
    There's Ballmoe and Glann
    They come likewise that day
    And the people did assemble
    Each evening by the score
    And such enormous prices
    You never heard before
The pigs they fetched eight pounds each
And slips were sold for our
    Bonham's they made fifty five
And some said they made more
You often did attend a fair
Where pigs were not so dear
And yet they were not satisfied
