“Long ago starch was made from potatoes.”
(continued from previous page)in three quarts of water and was then strained. It was left there for a while until it fell to the bottom. When it was set in the bottom the water was taken away and when it dried it was ready for use.- In Cloomahara there is a hill at the bottom of which Mass was said in Penal Times. It is the highest Hill in that townland. While the priests said Mass a few men went up to its summit and watched for the English soldiers. When they saw them coming they showed the priest a red handkerchief and in this way he was saved.(continues on next page)
