  2. About twenty years ago there lived in Newtowndaly a woman called Ann Kenny who used to carry fourteen stones of oats on her back to the market in Loughrea a distance of three miles and carry a cwt of flour home.

  3. There was a man named Buckey Hynes who lived below the town of Loughrea. He was a great thief and the penalty that was put on him was to let the hounds chase him. They started him from Knockbarren hill and he bested them in Athenry. He went into a yard called Blackhalls and he got out the other side on a step ladder.
