   half-pound of whitening and a half-pint of vinegar, and apply it to the swelling. A great cure for a swelling is to get bog moss and boil it, and put it on the part affected. The dandelion is a great cure for "rheumatism" and this flower has to be boiled, and the juice of it has to be drunk. (Dermot Minton, Aughrim Hill)

   A cure for a headache is to hang out a silk handkerchief on St. Bridget's night, and when you get a headache, to put the handkerchief to it.

   A cure for chilblains is to rub a hot iron lightly over them.

   Soot in your tea is a cure for pimples, and to put your head over hot tea is a cure for a headache.

   To stop a cut from bleeding, burn a piece of paper, and put the ashes of it on the cut.

   A cure for rash - Get starch and wet it in a bowl with cold water. Mix into paste and put it on the affected part.

   A cure for a corn - Get about one handful of blue stone, and wet it with hot water in a small jar. Put it into a basin and
