    The simple people of long ago believed that it was unlucky to give out fire or milk on several days throughout the year, such as the first of May, the first of November, New Year's Day, Good Friday, and several other days I forget.
    They used to believe that it was unlucky to start ploughing or sowing on any day, but on Friday. This custom is practised to this day.
    A cock was supposed to bring bad luck, if he stood on the door step and crew, faced inwards to the house,
