- There were a great many old customs pertaining to marriages in the days gone by, and some of them are being carried on still.While the man and the woman would be gone to the Chapel to be married, some of the friends at home would bake an oaten-meal cake. When the married couple would come home, the friends would break the oaten-meal cake on their heads. That was an old custom.
