The swallows’, the robins’ and the thrushes’ eggs are speckled brown and white. The blackbirds’ eggs are green. Boys are told they will be unlucky if they rob birds’ nests. When the swallows fly low, rain may be expected.
The following is a tradition told in my district about the origin of the robin’s red breast:- When Our Savior was being crucified, He had a crown of thorn on His Head. The robin is supposed to have pulled some of the thorns out of His Head and the blood fell on her breast. That is supposed to be how the robin got her red breast.
