    people were faced with Famine. The people then ate the turnips, till they all were gone tops and all. The Government sent yellow meal to the locality of Ballindaggin. They erected boilers on every cross roads to boil the yellow meal. The scenes round these were terrible with starving people fighting over the food. The people flocked to the poorhouses but they couldn't get in, and they were found dead in rows in the morning. Thousands of them went to America, but they died from the terribal diseases brought on by the Famine.
