    Like the bright lamp that lay in Kildare's holy fane
    And burned thro' long ages. of darkness and storm
    To the heart that sorrows have frowned on in vain
    Whose spirit outlives them unfading and warm
    Eirn o Eirn; tho bright through thy tears.
    Of the long night of bondage thy spirit appears.
