    Like the bright lamp that lay in Kildare's holy fane,
    burned through the long ages of darkness and storm.
    To the heart that sorrow have frowned on in vain,
    Whose spirit outlines them unfading and warm.
    Erin, oh Erin thus bright through the tears,
    Of a long night of bondage thy spirit apears.
    The nations have fallen and still thou art young,
    The sun is but rising when others are set.
    Thy slaverys cloud of the mornings has yet hung,
    The full moon of freedom shall
