- Somewhere about 3000 B.C life became easier in Ireland with the snow with the retreat of the ice. The discovery in the ground of copper made new weapons for slaying enemies and wild animals and for felling trees. The Stone Age gave way to the Copper Age. A new epoch opened with the invention of using tin to harden the soft copper, so as to make weapons and tools of greater strength.
