  2. Long ago there was a old school in townsland of Moclan, Parish of Upperchurch Co. Tipperary. There was a man from the Co. Cork, his name was James Connoly and he used not to teach Irish because there was no Irish that time. And he used to stop in a house in the Parish of Upperchurch. And all the children going to school used to bring him money and he was a good teacher.

There were a hedge-school-master in the townsland of Finnaha in the Parish of Upperchurch and he used to live in the house in the night his name was Thomas Shannon all the children used to gather together and he used to teach them for a few hours every day. All the children used to bring a few shillings to him every week.
