Food at the present day is far different to what the people had in days gone by.
The most common food the people had long ago was oat-cake, and potatoes and sour-milk or buttermilk, and they used to drink out of wooden mugs known as noggins and this is what a noggin looked like:

These noggins are not to be seen now at all, but they were very common in days gone by. Sometimes, children had to go to be without a supper because their parents had nothing for them to eat. Meat was eaten very seldom in those days because people were too poor to buy any meat, and they made their daily meals by eating fish(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
