In the Penal Times when the Catholic Faith was being crushed in Ireland and our Priests were hunted from place to place.With a price on their heads for what was then known as a crime to say mass in an old pit in Rushall now owned by Patrick Sawyer. The faithful did gather and the Priest offered mass contrary to the law and it is still called the mass pit.
