  1. The flu was one of the most important epidemics in my district. It first came from America. The people had it there, and some came home with it and spread it. This was in 1890 that is forty eight years. The famine was the worst of all the epidemics that were in my district. When the potato crop failed for some years there was meal for sale in O'Callaghans Mills. After a while when the people were too poor to buy it the Government distributed food for nothing.
