   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   The wild birds commonly found in the district are:-
   Robin, wren, blackbird, thrush, sparrow, crow, magpie, jackdaw,
   stare, wagtail, tom-tit, yellow-hammer, chaff-finch, bull-finch,
   gold-finch, lark, tit-lark, pigeon, waterhen, plover, snipe,
   swallow, cuckoo, corncrake, wild duck and goose.

   The plover, snipe, duck and goose migrate in the summer and return in the winter. The cuckoo, corncrake, and swallow migrate in the autumn and return at the end of April.

   The nests are built in the following places:-
   Robin - in dyke or bank, wren in a clump of bushes,
   blackbird and thrush in a Sceach bush, sparrow in hedges
   and eaves of houses, crow on top of high tree, magpie in hole in a tree, jackdaw in hole in tree, stare in chimneys and holes in walls, wagtail and tom-tit in holes in walls, yellow-hammer in bank or dyke, chaff, bull and gold finches in clumps of bushes, lark in middle of field especially bog, tit-lark near
   ditches in the fields, pigeon on tops of trees, waterhen in
   clump of reeds in pond, plover in bogs, likewise snipe,
   swallow in old barns and stables, cuckoo in hedge-sparrow's nest, wild duck on the bank of streams and rivers, geese in marsh ponds and lakes.

   Nest and eggs of birds mentioned:-

   ROBIN:- nest made of moss and hair, eggs white with brown spots - 5 -
   WREN:- nest of moss with small hole in the centre, 24 eggs of whitish (?) colour.
   BLACKBIRD:- nest of mud and moss, greenish spotted eggs 4 to 6
   THRUSH:- nest of mud, bluish eggs, 4 to 6.
