when both were partly intoxicated, they were shown to the room. No sooner had they entered the room than a strong feeling came over them. In some unknown way they became conscious of some hidden danger that was threatening them. Then one of them remembering the rush incident took it as a sign that they should leave that inn. He tried to persuade his comrade to come with him, but he was determined to stay for the night. Taking off his coat he threw it on the bed which to his horror fell down through the floor revealing a trap-door. Without further delay both left the place and spent the night elsewhere.
Their devotion to St. Brigid saved their life.
Note. Mrs Coby is the only person left in the parish of Denn who continues the custom of making St. Brigid Crosses. She calls the crosses by the Irish term criseags.
