put on the fire for a few hours. They the small fragments that could not be rendered were taken out and they would add a chemical powder called lye something like the potash we have nowadays. Then they would put it on again and let it render for a few more hours. Then it was taken off the fire and left to cool then it was semi-solid.
They would then take it out of the pot the next day. It was then cut into square pieces about the size of a bb nowadays. It stores and used as they wanted it. The kind of storage the had was a rod affair with wooden ends in it about 2 ft. in length an 9ins in width and 9 ins deep. It was hung with ah "sgoith" rope from the ribs of the house prepared and all for use. When they would want any of it they had a large box in the house called a chest and they would stand on it. This chest was in every house at the time.
