  1. There are some very historical place names in this district. There is a field called the horse-shoe field. It got its name because it is the shape of a horse-shoe. It is about a quarter of a mile from Slane to the right of the Castle Gates. The snow field is a very large field consisting of about one hundred acres. It is portion of the Slane Castle estate. It is on the Slane Navan road about one and a half miles from Slane. It is called the snowfield because it was supposed to be white with mushrooms at one time. There is a field called the Tanners field. It is about a quarter of a mile from Slane on the Slane Collon road. It got its name because it was supposed to belong to the Tannery, which was situated in main street Slane opposite the Hotel. The Cholera meadow is on a big farm on the borders of Slane.
