- Churning
All the small farmers living on mountain make their own butter.
Some have barrel churns, others have little hand churns. There is scarcely any staff churn to be found in the parish now. In most houses where only one or two cows are kept the butter is made in a small sweet gallon or a teapot. The teapot is supposed to be the quickest way.
Diagram: Barrel Churn, The barrel itself revolves.
Diagram: Glass Churn, Holds 1 1/2 gls cream. Timber beaters.
Diagram: Hand Churn. The churn can be stood on table or chair and the beaters inside spicket to let the milk go round when the handle is twisted. Size of this, 17" x 15"
