  1. One day when a man was driving in a horse and cart by Baylough he met Petticoat Loose. She stopped him, and asked for a lift, the man gave it to her, and after some time he noticed the horse sweating very heavily. As soon as they reached Mellary the horse fell dead under the car.
A short time after the man met Petticoat Loose again, and she told him if he had not given her the lift, he himself would have died instead of the horse.
It is thought that Petticoat Loose was a milk woman, and she was sent to Baylough to drain it with a thimble, as a punishment for mixing water and milk, and selling it.
It was believed that if you had a hazel stick you need not be afraid of Petticoat Loose.
