  1. Once upon a time three men were going around Ireland, an English man, a Scotch man, and an Irishman. Now this Irish man was a funny man and was always saying queer things. His name was Paddy, but the people used to all him "Paddy the Irishman".
One day as they were going along the road they saw a house in which they thought nobody was living. (in) So they went in to look at it. When they went in they saw, a horse, a cow, and a cart. The English man said he would take the horse, and the Scotch man took the cow so Paddy was left the cart.
A they journeyed along the road they met a man. He met the English man (firt) first. Then the Scotch man and last of all Paddy. He asked the English man where did he get the horse and he said he reared it since it was a foal. Then he came to the Scotch man and asked him where did he get cow and he said, "I reared it since it was a calf". Last of all he came to Paddy and asked him where did he get the cart and he said "I reared it since it was a box-barrow.
